Parking ticket, but paid the amount shown on machine?

I parked at a hospital car park recently. Upon leaving the hospital I typed my vehicle reg into the machine and a charge of £2 was shown on screen for me to pay. I paid it and left. I have since received a ticket for non payment. I appealed, stating that I had indeed paid and I have bank statements to prove this. I then received a new letter saying that yes I had paid, but my correct charge was £3 not £2. I ignored this letter and have no recorded a "letter before county court claim" . Do I have a chance of appealing this? It is surely reasonable for an ordinary person to rely on the accuracy of the ticket machine and pay the amount shown on screen?

Have you tried Plan A, which in your case will be a complaint to PALS at the hospital and politely demand they get it cancelled. They can do this.
If you look in the NEWBIES thread there is a section there on what to do if you receive a LBC.
The Newbies thread can be found at the top of this forum.

ParkingEye then.
Complain to PALS so the hospital cancel it. Do that first. Not by phone. And reply to PEye using:

Reiterate that you paid the sum displayed on the machine in good faith and are happy to (without admitting any liability for failure) now offer £10 to cover their minor admin costs if somehow the payment was £1 short.Add that you are aware from research that you appear to have fallen victim to an anti-consumer 'guess on exit' scheme designed to make a fortune from genuine visitors and patients for ParkingEye but adds nothing for the NHSTrust:

Tell them you have complained to PALS now but otherwise, you will see them in court to justify why their machine misleading displays a default £2 when the ANPR system it's supposed to be integrated with, knows from the live image data exactly when the car arrived and is capable of calculating the right fee per vehicle. This set-up is clearly a mIsleading omission and breaches the CPUTRS.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
