Energy Support scheme added to final bill charge

Just received my final bill from my energy supplier and noticed that they have added all the energy support scheme monthly payments to the total final bill instead of crediting it, so increasing the final bill and in effect getting the money back!!

Has anyone else noticed this. I phone the energy helpline and was told that is the final bill you have to pay it! with no explanation as to why what had been previously credited was now being debited (added to the charges and amount)

Who is your energy supplier? It may be worth re-reading your bill, as the payments are often split over various pages, meaning that they are unclear, EDF in particular seem to be an issue with the way they have laid it out of you have not read the whole bill.
  • Yes thanks it seems there are showing a credit for the rebate and monthly payments. But then in the final bill are adding all the rebate payments to the total charge. so for example rebate of £67 per month is paid to me. Then in the final bill that £67 is added to the sub total to give the final charge before any payments I have made are deducted.

They claim it is to prevent a double discount on the final bill, but that doesn't sound correct. More like they are recouping the payments.

If your supplier is EDF, your bill will be correct even if you think it isn't.

Ignore the summary page. Go to page 2 and add up the actual charges yourself from the calculations. Add 5% VAT then take off what YOU’VE paid and you’ll get that the balance on the bill is correct

Then if they have followed the standard pattern there will be a poorly worded deduction at the top of the energy cost section which is the rebate being removed from the cost, and also a payment back to the customer showing as a deduction from the amount paid.
It is correct, just looks wrong at first glance...
