Trying to add Outlook account to IPad Air

Hi, my iPad Air, although a tad ancient, has been going strong until recently. However, I have now two issues…one is that it won’t upload the latest software update, even though I have plenty of storage and have tried plugging it in, leaving it overnight etc, and secondly, my email account has disappeared. When I try to go back in through Settings to (re)add my Outlook account, a message comes up saying ‘unable to verify account information’. All in all, it’s immensely frustrating, and although I’ve tried to find a You Tube video to help me find a way through this, I seem to have got myself into a dead end. Any help/guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you.

It’s currently running 12.5.7, and when I go into software update, it tells me the software is up to date (but I know it’s not). There is plenty of space left in the memory, 7.15/16GB so I’m not sure why it’s not showing the latest update, and if that May or may not be why I’m receiving the error message when I try to add the Outlook account…

You've got a 1st gen iPad Air which is limited to iOS 12.5.7 - not a bad run for a 10-year-old device that got the final update in September 2019.

Microsoft Office apps including Outlook stopped supporting iOS 14 or lower when iOS 16 was released around September 2022 - so it will no longer connect to your Outlook account.

You could still use a different mail app to access your Outlook email account though or web browser but I've not got a similar device to test but probably the built-in iOS mail app will work.

Thanks so much for explaining, I understand now! Yes, it’s been a pretty good run on my Air, and I’m very attached to it! I think the built in IOS app is the one on the home page, but that’s the one through which I was trying to add the Outlook account. I guess I’ll have to go through a Safari browser, unless you meant there’s another App in the store that I can download? Thanks again.
