whats is in an alchemy computer?

My sons been given an old alchemy.sys computer with XP.:D It only has 384mb of installed memory and I want to put an xtra 512 in but cannot find the make on any list. The crucial scan cant help and all I know is that its got an AMD Athlon cpu.I contacted the company who will fit a new stick for me but I can do that myself (money, money).
How can I find out what kind of memory to buy??

If you can fit new memory yourself why not open the computer and have a look at what's already in it, it should be printed on a sticker on each dimm, check the motherboard for a manufacturer and model number and post that and someone could probably tell you the max size of dimm you can use.

You need to find out what the motherboard is. Id use PC Wizard.

Thanks--I like the PC wizard.--A friend gave me a surplus 512 today but it doesn't show up in system properties even though the wizard shows it, Belarc advisor shows it as an empty slot as well.
I noticed that the new memory is 72bit ECC and the original is 64bit non ECC.Is that why it's not been recognized??

Hi-according to the wizard the motherboard is a VIA AK35but the serial number is unspecified.
I will have a look to see if I can see some ID somewhere on the board.;)
