Fitted Bathroom Quote

Looking for advice as I have just had a new bathroom fitted and the installer is charging me for additional works which I didn't ask for but were needed.
Basically I bought all the materials and sorted a fitter who was to rip out existing bathroom including wall tiles and refit all new. When ripping out the old tiles they found that the plasterboard was coming away with the tiles due to it being installed poorly when last done. They have had to remove all the plasterboard and replace with new before they could tile.
As they came round to view the bathroom and being given the list of products and tiles that we were purchasing they then gave us a quote. Should I pay the additional cost for the plasterboard and labour for fitting this or should they have had more due diligence when quoting me?

How could they have known that the plasterboard would come away with the tiles? When they discovered this, they ought to have explained what your options and costs were, but it sounds like they weren't obliged to do the work under the terms of what you'd originally agreed with them, so they could have simply told you to find someone else to sort the plastering out before coming back to do the tiling?2

If the works were needed, you would have to pay this fitter or someone else anyway.1

She knocked one of the tiles off the wall to see what was behing it. Can I claim to have my bathroom retiled as i've since changed my mind and have this awful gap where the tile used to be.'How much extra are they charging for this essential additional work?

Really they should have informed you before doing extra work.
Did you see the plasterboard was coming away with the tiles? If so I'd pay as it seems fair but what you pay must be reasonable as no price was given for the service. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
Of course you should pay them. The two alternatives have been discussed: That they should carry out a destructive test first, or that they downed tools and waited for you to supply and fit the plasterboard yourself. In the former scenario, if cost was such a pivotal issue for you and you seem to know about how you want these things done, why did you not suggest it? For the latter, would you have been happy with a delay and possible extra charge for their idle time?
How much do you think you would have saved if they'd have been willing to stop and come back another time, leaving you to supply and fit the plasterboard?
Honestly, no wonder some people find it difficult to find good tradespeople, when trades are treated like this. You've got what sound like decent tradespeople completing a job and dealing with an unexpected problem quickly and efficiently, and you're wondering whether to pay them in full or not...5 -
How much are we talking about for some new plasterboard?
