Rats in loft

I have a problem with rats/mice in the loft space of my downstairs bathroom and kitchen. They are not in the house but just the loft space. I can't see how they may be getting in from my side of the property. I assume that they are coming in from next door as the loft space between mine and next door is not sealed off properly. I realise that this is an issue in terms of rat 🐀 infestation and safety due to fire risk 🔥 What tradesman would be able to seal off the properties from each other and at what kind of cost?
The loft space isn't easy to access. I was thinking of having a new roof (as it needs one) and hoping the roofers would be able to seal off the property at the same time.
Any help appreciated. Thanks

the trouble is with rats and vermin in general is they can get in through the smallest gap, i've seen one get in through an almost impossible size gap in the eaves of a house. it would be easier to see if you were having a new roof but in the meantime i'd advise against poison and if you can use the super sticky traps/rat traps (put somewhere near loft access if there is one, checked/replaced regulaly), its not nice to get rid of the bodies - poison works but when that rat dies if it is somewhere inaccessible it makes a smell like you wouldnt believe until its decomposed.Worst debt £31,746

I wouldn’t assume it is definitely an issue with next door. More than likely it could be a drain and then entering loft space via cavity wall.
check with local council as they may offer a pest control service that would be cheaper than private sector.
It is not able removing the ones you have but stopping future access or the problems will persist.
a smoke test and or drain cctv should show any issues and then this can be repaired or if it is inaccessible. Than a rat valve can be installed.
if you can get a camera in your loft space this would help you see which way they enter or exit.
its a horrible and stressful situation but can be fixed. Good luck
