Hi all,
I was made redundant last year and it coincided with a time my mum was in hospice care. Her illness was awful and I was affected so badly my depression and anxiety spiralled. She passed and I was put on ESA. However it was stopped after an assessment deemed me capable of work. I tried to get my life back in track and I started a job but my mental state is horrific I just didn’t last. Because I have savings, unfortunately gained through inheritance I don’t qualify for any support. I’m trying not to touch those savings so maybe one day I can afford a house but I live in an affluent and unattainable area. Im so lost is there any support I can get? My savings are disappearing quickly, making my mental health even worse?

You can apply for PIP, Personal Independence Payment, it is NOT a means tested benefit and anyone can apply for it even if you work. You need to phone up to start the claim, but then go to citizen's advice for them to help fill the form in. Have you not spoken to a financial adviser about investing some savings that could generate an annual income for you? Until your savings fall below £16,000 you can't claim much help, but you had a right to appeal the ESA decision within one month. Did you try that? I think you need to talk to Citizen's Advice for better help. PIP can help, but it is not lots but would be something.2

If you are not working can you not look for a job in a less affluent area where housing is more affordable?2
