Estate agents asking for seemingly unnecessary information

    Ask him for exactly the same info he's asking for: First.  Obviously it won't be a problem as he thinks it's fair for you to provide same info to him.

    I hate  giving info like this and keep it to the minimum, they don't usually ask about other half, just assume that we are Mr & Mrs Horn which we aren't. I assume the requesting of the address is so that they can offer to sell it for you - they usually pipe down when they discover it isn't going to be sold. 
    You can always give a variant on the names - just have to remember which name you used where

    Its basic information, the Op wants to buy a house and the EA wants their details to enable them to send potential listings. Im pretty sure you have shared the same to register on this site...

    We have an annoying system too. We have to enter an address to set up an initial enquiry otherwise we can't save it. As we don't actually need the enquirer's address at that stage we end up putting in a dot for street, a dot for town and our office postcode so we can work around the requirement.

    As said above, if the agent has to meet a customer to do a viewing, which many agents seem to do these days, it is some protection to have customer details. I remember many years ago an agent disappeared after (presumably) a viewing, and the police couldn't work out who the customer was. The agent was never found I believe.

    Artful you're usually so helpful. This is nonsense. 

    Estate agents need to do KYC checks when arranging a sale. If you are a serious buyer they wouldn't expect you to think twice about this. What do you think they will do with your data? You can instruct them as to its use under GDPR if it makes you more comfortable.

    I watched an audit video on YouTube once....then moved on rinse and repeat.

    This person is going to a business for a service they provide. Some basic questions like this for their system is reasonable imo. Rather than hi this is Steve hers my mobile call me about properties hang up. Far more likely to be taken seriously giving full details imo.

    Imagine an estate agent showing people round properties and they don't know who they are then they get attacked?
