Missing Royal Mail parcel

Hi folks,
Just had my first experience of a missing parcel, royal mail tracked 48, left at depot and due to be delivered on the 4th of May, as far as the tracking shows, it is still sitting there today. fortunately, because the item was bought from a third party seller on Amazon, they have been kind enough to refund my account on this occasion.

However, now this has happened, I need clear information on returns going missing when using tracked 48 labels that are issued by a company's returns portal? I have had to return another parcel this morning using the company's own shipping label (royal mail again) tracked 48 postage on account. Am I right in thinking because the retailer is issuing the label, then they are responsible if the parcel is lost?? it is difficult to obtain clear information on this matter.

Up until now (probably wrongly) I have never given this stuff a thought, but now understand that it pays to know your consumer rights in these situations.

Also, if the retailer is responsible for missing parcels when supplying the return label, but they dispute it and say it is the consumer's responsibility, I could also do with knowing how to handle that too.

Much appreciated

Their label their responsibility, but getting them to agree to that is another matter.

The contract is between RM and Amazon Marketplace. Not your responsibility.
For a return, you simply need the receipt to show that you delivered it to the seller's approved agent. If it's lost or damaged after then, it's down to them to resolve between them.

         Hi macman,

Thank you for clarifying this, at least Amazon did the right thing in this case. I have posted another parcel this
morning with the same retailer tracked 48, it's a worry now as never had this issue before.
