Transfer Limits - How do I do it?

Hi all, We've sold our house and now have a large sum in our current account. I want to put it in one (or more) 1 year fixes. How do I do this when my bank limit (Natwest) transfers to 20K a day but the receiving account requires the funds within 14 days? I understand that I can use CHAPS but some of the accounts found on the forum (Allica for one) don't accept CHAPS transfers.

Make multiple faster payments at £20K per day?

Can you do larger ones in branch or by phone?
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

The practical answer may be to transfer to a deposit taker that does accept CHAPS. Santander allows Faster Payments transfers up to £100K. You could open an account with them and CHAPS the money over. You may get mired down with money laundering and fraud checks though.

    Where possible, use a cheque.

Are you sure that's £20k max per day rather than £20k max per transaction? Most allow £100k per 24 hours which is the FPS restriction. So multiple transactions (I always do unique amounts just in case one payment has an issue rather than 5 x £20k). Or call them, they will probably do an FPS transfer up to £100k. Then call again >24 hours if you need another one doing.

Don't forget FSCS £85k limit per institution.

You could go into a Branch and get them to set up Standing Orders,  for as soon as they can be scheduled.

Set up the payees beforehand, and send £1 test payments to each of them, so you can be certain that you have the correct details.

FPS limit has been upped to £1m a few months ago, and one or two banks have followed suit. I know Starling has, and one or two other have £250k. Those sorts of sums will with near certainty be subject to additional checks.

Most banks are actually £20-25k, some higher if you have their "premier or private" banking. Only few actually allow 100k/day or over even with additional checks.

Natwest own help centre doesnt mention ability to send higher even in branch which is quite bad if true; https://supportcentre.natwest.com/Nonsearch/913208362/What-are-the-payment-limits.htm
