  • Good evening: What type of fire are you intending to install? If you are purchasing a gas appliance, visit www.trustcorgi.com to find an installer who can advise.

i have a gas fire now, thats plugged in at the wall, that u turn on there and then switch on the fire, using a press in turn button to ignite the flame

i want to swap it for one that goes half way up the wall, like a picture would, but ive seen one i like at bandq only it would mean getting someone who can rebuild under the new fire as the existing one meets the floor

    any advice?

the spec sheet for the fire will give you the dimensions for the opening required.
try the fires website for details.
you then need a builder to make/build the new opening. (or diy).
a builder cannot fit the fire. and no corgi man i know off will do the building stuff either.
    Get some gorm.
  • In answer to your original question. I've just had a gas fire fitted.

The best I could determine by talking to suppliers:

Flue type 1 - is a conventional chimney that it would be possible to use with an open fire. These days they are usually on older houses.

Flu type 2 - is a metal or ceramic pipe that usually routes up to the roof. There may not be a chimney on the roof. It could just be a small opening on the ridge tiles.

We had neither, so I had to get a balanced flue fire that vented directly outside.

I saved a bit of money by doing the research myself. Buying the fire at discount on the internet, and then hiring a Corgi fitter to fit it.
  • thanku, got no chimney so that settles that, possibly 2 then by the looks of it, or neither :P

or you could just fit the fire in situ as a decor item, and not connect it?
    assuming you have CH?
