Starling Bank... good?

Any bank is allowed to do this under AML rules etc

Not a case of allowed, are obligated to do so if there is a suspicion of any misuse. They are also not allowed to tell you why.

Everyone should have more than one current account that they can rely on in case such a thing happens to them. It has become more important in recent years.

I'd say at the least have a couple of "proper" ones in different groups and then any number for using as switches

I'm a big fan of Starling and one thing they do that's particularly good is their "Virtual cards" where you can create a virtual card linked to one of your Spaces ("pots") and use it online or via a digital wallet like Google Wallet or Apple Pay. 

This is handy if you find yourself paying online but don't want to use your actual card because you think it might just be a bit dodgy or uncertain - use a virtual card and then delete it and create another.
