Disabled tax exemption

Hi all

Posted in motoring also but thought might get more answers here.
I get pip enhanced mobility and daily needs.

I don't drive buty husband does..we only use the car mainly weekends and he also drops me off at a local transport to get.to.woek in the city

He also takes me into work if I work a weekend shift. He collects me from places of needed. The only time he would use it without me being there would be going to the shops to get food or something for the house which I would use.

It says on the website that a nominated driver can be done if you don't drive as long as the car is used for my needs an not for personal use. How strict are they with it and how do they check?

I dont even know if there's a way of anyone checking, or even if they check. I've had a motability vehicle since 2016 so have never used my motability award to tax any vehicle i own.

I suspect that a problem might only arise if the police became involved for any reason and query why the vehicle was being used. This might arise following a major motor accident.
I suspect many vehicles that are licensed in the disabled class (zero fee) are sometimes used by and for the non disabled person. It is certainly known that the blue badge parking scheme can be misused.

Yes, you've given good examples above and they would clearly be all in line with what's meant by the scheme.
If it helps, I would give the following examples that wouldn't be in line:
If he had his own business and was using the vehicle for this
If he was driving to/from a place of work and using the vehicle for this
If he was using the car for his own social activities that didn't involve you
If he went on holiday on his own using the vehicle to get there for example

Grocery shopping is fine and shopping for things generally for the house would be fine as it's where you live.

So just think through the logic of what the vehicle would be used for.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

    Hi

He wouldn't use it go for social occasions on his own as he would use the local transport. He very rarely goes on social occasions without me. Not that I stop him it's just we both don't really have many friends that we see outside of work.

He doesn't use it to go to work as he gets a pass for the local transport through work scheme as he wouldn't qualify for staff  parking at the workplace as it's based on how far you live and if you have no other option of public transport. He very very very rarely uses it to go to work. For example when our plumbing had an issue and he was trying to fix it before work but by the time he had help (wasn't fixed it was my parents come to look at it) it was too late for public transport so he used the car to go to work and he paid what the public would pay. I could argue that him going to work ensures money coming into the house.

But yeah very rarely drives on his own. He would be going to the shops after he drops me off to the local public transport (which even then I still find difficult to use and part of the reason I do get mobility).
He may drop me off at.work on weekend and go shopping but also takes his grandmother too but he would get shopping in for us.

Just been to post office to apply for it
Also discovered local toll booth allows exemption of the toll charges so once we get v5 back we will apply for that too.

It's handy for when I have appointments at the hospital as often have to go through there for a hospital

Now that there is no VED disc on display, your neighbours will not be aware that your car has been exempted. I would suggest you tell no one, not even friends and family.
