EU Travel insurance - couple living at separate addresses, one with health conditions

Hi all,
My partner and I have booked to travel to Spain later this year. She has a medical condition that has been declared to her travel insurance she gets as part of First Directory (First Direct package bank account).
However the T&Cs for this insurance, whilst does cover partners, this is only when they're living at the same address. Currently we do not, thus I'm not covered.
Now, I had thought that I could simply purchase travel cover for myself and have two separate policies. However, if the event that we'd have to cancel or cut short our trip due to my partner's health, would we both be covered, or would we only get a 50% payout etc?
If so, would we instead have to purchase a policy that covered both of us?
Thanks!

You need to check your policy document.
Some policies will over you if a person you are travelling with is unable to travel but you would be best check with the insurance company of she was unable to travel due to a known condition.
Alternatively, you could take out a group policy0 -

Most policies will accept a claim for cancellation when one of their travelling party are unable to travel even if they arent insured under that policy however this typically will exclude cases where the reason for cancellation is related to a pre-existing condition. So she gets hit by a bus you can both claim, her pre-existing condition deteriorates and she cannot travel then she can claim her 50% from her policy (assuming the condition is accepted) but you are unable to claim.
The normal solution is to get one policy that covers the both of you and therefore her conditions are declared (and accepted) so both can claim your respective 50%s.
See if she can pay a premium to add you to her policy? Never tried with mine (Barclays) but they may allow it.
Else take a risk based decision on if its better to be safe and double up on her insurance or risk not claiming your 50% back0 -
Thanks for your replies!Yeah that's what I suspected, we'll get some quotes for a separate group policy, but good call on asking FD to add me onto the policy. Didn't think of that and will definitely give them a ring and see what they say.Cheers!0
