Son is at Uni and they were told late at night that due to severe weather, there is a risk to life and they are to move out of Uni halls immediately. What we know:
No experience of Uni's, just would like a sounding board as to what others think and are the Uni doing all that they should be doing - thanks!
- Water leak into block effecting fire alarm system.
- Moved into alternative halls (some are in better, some are in worse than what they were in)
- Told approx 3 days until they can come back - mmmmmmm, we'll see!
- Can collect essentials from their room escorted.

Sounds generous to me...they've provided alternative accommodation at nil cost...what more would you hope for?#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3662

They've provided accommodation, be it better/worse/same at no additional cost and provided £6 a day for food (why?) I don't know what else they could have done at such short notice to be honest. What extra do you think they could/should be doing?
It's not great having this disruption at the present time, but it sounds an emergency situation and they've done quite well to find spare accommodation given the shortages at many universities. All in, as long as it is only for a week or two, it sounds like a good deal to me.

Halls usually provide breakfast as part of the deal, so I guess the £6 is because the emergency accommodation doesn't.1

Accommodation fees cover just the room, utilities etc. No food is included, so the daily £6 is something the uni is providing.0

Sounds fair to me based on the circumstances.

There is a 'risk to life' and they have moved them somewhere safe. What else would you have wanted them to do? It's an emergency and they have responded.
Also - I know you still think of him as your little boy, but if your son is at University he is over 18 and legally an adult. If he's not happy, he needs to let people know that. But you can't get involved, unless he specifically asks you to.0
