Loyalty
Joined Metro bank when they first started although they converted my then local pub into one of their stores, i have forgiven them. Now just have current accounts with them for direct debits, standing orders, cheque book, magic money machine use, good opening hours and helpful staff
Savings accounts, now use App based banking services that pay best interest on easy access accounts and fixed interest bonds.
Low interest in being loyal

I tend to stick with banks till I'm tired of them, so long as I can get something I want out of them I never get tired of them.2

I used to stick to my bank as I needed to know I could get to branch and wanted free withdrawals at the time.
Now I have pretty much everything in online banks - main current account is 1st Direct, Savings with Atom, ISA's with Leeds BS and Shawbrook but all managed remotely.
In fact I went into an HSBC today to deposit coins id been collecting for a few years and I loved the coin depositor rather than having to bag it all up...wont be going to a branch again for a few years1 -
Personally, I have stayed with my building society for years having several different accounts with them. I have a S&S ISA with another provider as well as a back up current account with a bank and some money in premium bonds. Never been one to chase switch incentives. Arrangements suit me fine which is the main thing.3

I've been with my bank for 30+ years, they've seen me through my first saturday job at 16, a student account, a graduate account, and so on. I do feel a sense of loyalty as they've been decent - when I was a student and also when I was unemployed for a time I went over my overdraft limit many, many times and generally I wasn't charged when I should have been. I'm probably living in fantasy land but that suggests that a human made some of those decisions. This year I did open another bank account to get fee-free foreign currency spending and also for emergencies, but I'm happy with my main bank for day-to-day.

I have had a current account with NatWest for 50 years and this is still my primary current account. Some might suggest that this is evidence of loyalty, but I see no reason to change. I have even received a switching bonus for switching another account to my ancient NatWest account.
I have or have had current accounts with 13 major banks. Some have features that are better than NatWest but none come anywhere near NatWest when considering all of its attributes.
Nowadays I bank with RBS because the accounts are decent and the stationery is nice. No loyalty though, I'd switch in a heartbeat given a more lucrative offer.0 -

I know the bank I used to work for spent a lot of time and money testing customer reaction to various potential card designs when they moved from the landscape to portrait format.
Do you remember the days when you'd open a new account and be given a statement folder, chequebook holder etc? I have loads of old branded 'merch' at home from the various banks I've worked for - coffee mugs, umbrellas, all sorts.0 -
Stayed with Nationwide in one way or another since early 70's when it was called Anglia Building Soc. Holding on to an extremely old a/c, just transferring within N/W not withdrawing, just in case they ever do the necessary that will result in a payout, even used to vote for the "carpetbagger" they had in times gone by!
Since about 1968 with TSB, then became Lloyds TSB Bank (vaguely amusing name, 'Lloyds Trustees Savings Bank Bank'!) The split a few years ago put us with Lloyds, 2 a/c's, though 1 is our primary a/c, it's mostly for 2x6 Odeon cinema vouchers, bounce money to/fro avoiding fee.
No loyalty, but Lloyds have 2 branches here & day to day banking suits our needs. Gone are the days when I had about 20 a/c's, 4 in each bank bouncing the paying in requirements around & no DD's necessary, just for the decent interest rates.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.1 -
TheBanker said:It's funny you mention the stationery - it shouldn't really make much difference but I also like a 'nice' looking card. The one thing I didn't like about Natwest, since they moved to Mastercard, was the design of the debit card, which looked like something my four year old nephew would have created! It didn't annoy me enough to move my account, but I was very happy when I was upgraded to Premier and got a nice black card... even though it hardly ever comes out of my wallet.TheBanker said:Do you remember the days when you'd open a new account and be given a statement folder, chequebook holder etc?
