My father is currently in hospital, do I have to let Dept Pension know if he's not on any benefits? I can't see the point as his pension remains payable

Will it be a long stay? If not, I wouldn't bother.
My elderly Mum broke her leg in two places (during Covid times) so we knew she would be in for a while. Quite a while, as it turned out. I did phone DWP, as it was a change of circumstances. They made a note, thanked me for calling and said to call back if things changed. I phoned again when she was admitted to a nursing home and again when she passed. I felt it better to keep them informed. Also the local Council for CT as the property was empty.

When my father was in hospital, in 2002, the state pension was stopped after a stay of 6 weeks. Rather unfair, as the house had to be maintained with some heating and lighting for security and insured.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

It says only benefits are effected not the pension so maybe its changed since 2002. Not sure how long he'll be in for, caught covid now as well so worse off than when he went in! Seems rather pointless phoning them if all they do is make a note then make another when he comes out.0
