Looking at those photos, builders would likely say they could get property 1 up to the standard of 2 for £10k so that’s your purchase price differential. Do the work for less and you’re obviously money up. 

I’m surprised on such programmes such as Homes under the Hammer just how little it costs to turn some properties around.

And when buying your project, spend as much as you can as it's much easier to turn a profit on a £500k house than it is on a £150k house as the trades and hardware cost exactly the same so form less of a % on the sale price.

Spend £50k on a £150k buy you're unlikely to get your money back. Spend the same on a £500k and you stand a much better chance.
