VW Golf Vs T-Roc

I've recently started looking for a replacement car as mine is getting on a fair bit and I think it's getting to the age where it's soon going to start having expensive problems.

At first I was considering getting a one to two year old VW Golf but due to the exceptionally poor state that a lot of the roads are in the UK, something that I doubt will improve in the short term, I've also started looking at T-Roc's as they have a little bit more ground clearance.

I've been out in both types on test drives but only on nice smooth roads so haven't been able to see how they compare on bumpy or potholed roads and I was wondering if there are any MSE members who have experience of driving both the Golf and the T-Roc and could let me know what they think of them.
I'm looking at vehicles with the 1.5L TSI engine and not the R or R-line models that both have fairly low profile tyres.

I own a Mk7.5 Golf and have spent a couple of weeks driving the t-roc.

Both cars with the 1.5/150 tsi dsg.

I prefer the golf, the t-roc is fine but the golf is slightly better in every area. Road holding, noise & vibration are all better.

I drive on some of the worst pot holed roads, but the 16 inch wheels on the golf with crossclimate tyres are fine.

My golf also has the x-diff so has limited slip on poor road surfaces.

I’m on my second mk 7 Golf and had my current one 6.5 years, I rate them highly.
