"Bleeding" radiator

For the past few months I'm having to bleed the some of the radiators of the heating system every week. I know this is way too often and must indicate a problem but, : a) is it serious? b) does it need fixing (by a professional)?.

Thanks in advance

  • Next time you bleed the radiator, put a match flame near the gas. Does it burn? (Don't set fire to your curtains!!). If so, then the gas is caused by oxidisation inside your system due to insufficient inhibitor, simply pour that into your header tank. If it doesn't then check the header tank is at the correct level and not drawing air into the system.

    (Assuming standard open vented system).
