Any help available.

I made an international transfer in November last year with incorrect details.
The money was returned to the intermediary bank - HSBC.
My bank - Santander , has on numerous occasions asked HSBC to return the money to my account.
HSBC has not responded to any requests in any way.
I made a complaint to the banking ombudsman that Santander should do more.
The banking ombudsman found that Santander had dealt with me in a fair manner ( it was my mistake).
I cannot complain to the banking ombudsman about HSBC as I do not have an account with them.
I have phoned HSBC but they say they cannot help!
I tried messaging HSBC on their Facebook page, but they did not reply.
I don't know what else I can do, the amount involved is £1100.00,  which I cannot afford to lose, and the family member I was paying still needs their money.
I made a mistake in the respondent details and the destination bank (overseas) returned the money to the intermediary bank - HSBC -as per procedure but HSBC refuse to reply to any communication.
Its gone on for six months now.
What else can I do?

Open an account with HSBC and then complain?

Given HSBC have never replied how do you know HSBC have the funds.

Also which HSBC? As, while they are a worldwide bank, each is a separate entity. International transfers can go through many parties.
HSBC (UK) has not part in any other HSBC.

It is difficult to say what else Santander can do if they sent the money as per instructions and the intermediary bank will not send it back.  Do you have categorical proof that HSBC have the money?  Have you gone to them direct to get them to trace it?  I would opt for that before going to the ombardsman especially considering it was your fault in the first place that the money went astray.

You have formal written confirmation that this was the case?

What exactly did the communication say?

It's not uncommon for international transfer money to be stuck with HSBC UK as a number of banks/BSs use it for this purpose but those threads usually relate to Nationwide.
