Radiotherapy - Marsden London - support & local accommodation

Hello

A close friend will soon be having radiotherapy at the Marsden in London.  It involves daily attendance for four weeks.  They live quite some distance outside London so this will entail a long train journey every day.

Not sure whether this is the right forum to ask this, but wondering whether anyone knows of any local support and/or accommodation near (within a reasonably short travelling distance) to the Marsden (it's kind of Chelsea area) where ideally both of us could stay (so I can support) for these four weeks.  Mainly looking for somewhere fairly comfortable, peaceful to recover after treatment sessions.  Not required for weekends, just to hopefully avoid the added stress of long train journeys whilst undergoing treatment.  Happy to pay a reasonable sum but can't really afford payment akin to a market rental in this area.  Also happy to provide services/house sitting/small pet sitting in exchange for accommodation, so I am aware of some of these sites and considering these.

Support-wise I'm thinking about maybe meditation offerings/massage etc.

If anyone has any suggestions or knows of anywhere, very grateful if you could send a reply. Many thanks.

Ask the hospital if they have any information?

Do a Google search for  ' accommodation near  Marsden hospital.

Sounds like lodging with someone might be the most convenient/cheaper.

I don't know where the best place is to find "digs" to lodge at, generally.

Maybe ask over on the housing/rental board?
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.98% of current retirement "pot" (as at end April 2025)

Have a look at spareroom.com, as there might be some properties available on a Monday- fri basis

    I’ve just finished Radiotherapy.

There is nothing to “recover” from. It was unobtrusive and painless. I went back to work after my sessions.

Depending on the time of his appointments the travel can be tiring. Can family help him out regards transport?

Buy a cheap camper van and live in the hospital car park. Parking is free for cancer patients.

As suggested already, try contacting the hospital who may have suggestions since this is likely to be something they’ve come across regularly

Everyone is different. It's good you went back to work but many can't. My husband went straight to bed. My MIL stayed in hospital.
Cancer charities may be able to help. There is accommodation in the local cancer support centre for those who are a distance away.

Thx very much for the helpful replies.

Thank you very much Torry Quine - firstly, hope your family are now getting a bit better/at least recovered from the radiotherapy.

Totally agree, reactions are a very individual thing.

Do you please have any more info on the accommodation in the local cancer support centre?

I didn't know that about parking being free - didn't even know they had a car park.  Any more info on this please? Although I think it will still be the easier option to train if accommodation can't be found. As driving likely to be more tiring/stressful.

Here's a couple of links I've found that may help.

The cancer centre here is local to the area.
