Switching bank accounts

We are hoping to move house in the summer. I've never done it before BUT my question is - Is it better to switch accounts BEFORE the house move or AFTER? does it make any difference to credit checks etc ?
thanks in anticipation

Opening a new bank account usually results in a credit check.  If you are applying for a mortgage you may want to wait until after.

Though one thing to note is that opening savings accounts does not affect your credit report so if you've any savings languishing in a lower paying account you can (and should) move it to higher paying savings accounts without worrying about credit checks.

I’m curious why banks perform a hard search even when you don’t request an overdraft? I’ve had a couple of hard searches in the last year because of switching bank accounts, even though I never request an overdraft.

Because a debit card can, in some circumstances, allow you to create an overdrawn position even if you don't have an overdraft. So they want to be sure you don't have a history of running up debts and not paying them back.
