Garage charges

My car broke down and it was established that the fault was caused by a poor quality timing belt. Peugeot have accepted this and are paying for the repairs but I have been hit with a bill of almost £600 from the garage for diagnostic and inspection. As this issue was Peugeots fault and they have admitted as much shouldn't they be liable for these charges also?

I'd certainly be asking them to cover it.

Peugeot, when they built the car. There is currently a recall dealing with them. JZR is the recall code.0

Is car still under warranty?Roska1977 said:
Peugeot have said their goodwill policy does not cover charges levied by the dealership/garage. I dont think this is right/fair.Brie said:I'd certainly be asking them to cover it.
Was it a Peugeot garage or 3rd party that levied the charges?Life in the slow lane0 -
The timing belt is under warranty. The garage is a Peugeot dealership, brands only authorise work to be carried in their name at their own dealerships.0

If it was a Peugeot dealership who performed the diagnosis I'm surprised that they don't seem to have been aware intially that a faulty timing belt was a likely cause of the break down you had. Would have thought Peugeot must have (or should have) issued a technical bulletin regarding the issue and symptoms to all their dealers.1

The car was called in under the recall, they declared the belt to be ok, 4 days later I get engine failure warning on dash, engine strip down reveals timing belt particles have spread throughout engine.0

Would be helpful to give a bit more of the events in the first post....drip feeding changes the advice.Roska1977 said:The car was called in under the recall, they declared the belt to be ok, 4 days later I get engine failure warning on dash, engine strip down reveals timing belt particles have spread throughout engine.
You shouldn't have to pay given then failed to clearly do the recall check properly in the first place.3 -
If it's a recall matter then surely they are responsible for the whole thing. It's nothing to do with 'goodwill', the car you bought had a fault. They recalled it and then four days later there's a big problem. It's their fault and they need to fix it all and pay for it all too.Roska1977 said:The car was called in under the recall, they declared the belt to be ok, 4 days later I get engine failure warning on dash, engine strip down reveals timing belt particles have spread throughout engine.
