Tesco Wine and their strange way of doing things

I ordered a case of 6 Andre Carpentier bottles of champagne from them early last week, and the only delivery slot available was for Sunday the 23rd. I booked that one as we have friends family coming over Christmas. A couple of days later it was listed as 'out of stock' on the site. We thought surely this wouldn't affect us as they would have put our order aside immediately. My wife phoned them to check all was well as we had a cancellation(on Tesco's part) of a case of wine a few months back. They told her they don't know if an order is in stock until the day before when they go to pull it out of the warehouse or whatever
The particular champagne we ordered has been out of stock ever since, so it looks very unlikely we are going to receive it on Sunday. The guy's advice on the phone was to 'make alternative arrangements, just incase'.
Surely a better way of doing things(using common sense which you'd think a multi million pound company would have) would be to go to the warehouse and MARK and RESERVE an order as soon as it is placed, then they won't have disappointed customers on their hands. Their way of doing things absolutely baffles me, it makes no sense. But then, neither does them paying the Spice Girls £1m each for a series of awful adverts

but i dont think they go and collect one order at a time. I mean when you order on line, they dont go straight to the warehouse and mark your items.
If you can imagine how many orders they get every hour- really its a computer fault, but im sure that the have some sort of disclaimer in their T&C's for delivery
What im guessing is that they had been given a delivery date off the supplier of that item and they updated it on their website, but for whatever reason they havent been able to get it in, hence the delay0 -
that happened to me with the mercier champagne offer, they phoned the day before to tell me they didnt have it in stock. I agree that they should have a better system so customers arent disappointed. Its not just online it happens either - instore is a nightmare and the CS desk is just not interested.0

If you want champagne sainsburys have etienne dumont champers at half price (was £19.99 now £9.99) plus you would get a 5% discount for buying 6 bottles or moreNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20
