  • Hi,
ok, so what you need is a pair of vice grips,
adjust them until you get a good tight fit on turning knob, sorted.

It’s a stop !!!!!!, not a stop tap. Get yourself a 3 ft length of 3x2 and cut a notch in it., 1/4 turn.

Make it one word, like stopcock.
CB, could you post a link to the one you bought that doesn't work? Ok, don't bother - looks like they suit 'crutch' taps, which are the T-handle type, like old fashioned taps.
Yours is the only kind I cannot find

why is cok not allowed when  I got away with knob?
Maybe the mods are biased against northerners, as we like to say R rite cok, and not R rite knob 😂
As co,k is a friendly greeting, up here in the grim north.

Interesting, I wasn't sure it would be strong enough. Plenty of spare wood lying around for me to try!

Also, the plot thickens as regards a conventional 'one of these' for a household as opposed the utilities ones..

I have a front outside tap... Just noticdd the bottom of it has what looks like a conventional stop, yiy jniw what, lol, and a pipe, plastic, that is under the patio. Looks, if I'm not mistaken, to be an outside residential stop thingy.!

I decided to side step the naming issue lol

I would have thought a spray of WD40, a pair of pliers and a bit of elbow grease would do the job!
WD40 is a water displacement product, a penetrating oil will be better.
