I claim carers allowance at the moment but have a letter informing me we wll be forced onto Universal Credit soon. Under CA rules my savings doesnt matter but under UC rules it does and would mean I wouldnt be entitled to any UC. How does this work ? Am I expected to spend all of my savings I spent a life saving just because I had to stop work to care for my mum ?

Do you claim any other benefits as well as carers allowance? Because carers allowance is not being replaced with universal creditBrothertse2008 said:I claim carers allowance at the moment but have a letter informing me we wll be forced onto Universal Credit soon. What other benefit(s) do you claim?
There are transitional rules for those who are migrated across from legacy benefits, 12 months where savings over £16,000 will be disregarded. After that, yes you will have had to spend some to get down to that level to still be eligible for Universal Credit - it's not a specific penalty for carers, the rules apply to everyone claiming UC no matter the reason they need some extra financial support.2 -
"I claim carers allowance at the moment but have a letter informing me we wll be forced onto Universal Credit soon."
CA in itself is not a benefit that will be migrating to UC.
Are you in receipt of another benefit?
See - https://www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/benefits/universal-credit/switch-to-universal-credit-from-legacy-benefit-such-as-tax-credits-or-housing-benefit#:~:text=If you're claiming these,Child Tax Credit

"Universal Credit is replacing 6 benefits called ‘legacy benefits’. These are:Housing Benefit
income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
Child Tax Credits (CTC)
Working Tax Credits (WTC)
Income Support
If you already get one of them, you’ll have to move onto Universal Credit by 2029."
So it's strange that you have received this letter. I wonder if it has been sent in error. Can you share the letter (with personal details redacted)
Are you aware of transitional protection for those claimants who are migrated to UC (say from Tax Credits) ?
