SMETS 1 or SMETS 2?
I'm thinking about changing to Octopus Agile which needs a SMETS 2 meter to work. I've been assuming that because I can get the data in apps like Loop it must be SMETS 2 but I'm starting to doubt myself. Can anyone confirm that my assumption is correct or have I grasped the wrong end of the stick? Thanks, Mike

If you have a first generation ‘SMETS1’ meter made by Secure those can also be used for their smart tariffs.

A quick way to check is to see if your meter has the little box with a bunch of flashing lights sitting on top of it, which OVO suggests indicates it's most likely a SMETS 2

Although if you're retrieving your data just fine in the apps I'd imagine the meter may be suitable regardless.Moo…1 -

Looking at this again, I think it does - but I have now established via the @[Deleted User] link that I have a SMETS2 meter anyway so I've initiated the change to Octopus Agile.

My SMETS1 meter works with Loop, but thats about all it does as according to Scottish Power it can't be changed from a pre-payment to a credit meter ...Debt Free Wannabe by 1 March 2026
Satisfied customer of Octopus Agile - currently saving on average 33% of standard tarrif
Deep seated hatred of Scottish Power and all who sail in her - would love to see Ofgem grow a pair and actually do something about it.0 -
Then leave SP and get a new supplier to give you a credit meter - some used to charge, others did for free - so hopefully for free if indeed does need a new meter.
Ofgem not explicitly saying applies to Smets1 - but doesn't say Smets2 only either.

Why are you a SP prisoner ? Thtc or bespoke legacy tariff ?0
