External damp patch under window

Hello friendly MSE peoples. What could be the cause of the damp patch under the window? Could it be an easy fix? It's a bedroom, if that helps - ie: not a bathroom. The CH system is all new, no leaks or pressure drops. This is after a period of rain, so most likely is rain water. But seems like an odd patch?

Apologies I didn't include the guttering in the picture!

Thanks in advance

frien

    Are those cills hollow ?
Could be water pooling inside and then coming out of a small hole.

It's hard to tell for certain, but it looks like the wet patch extend upwards around the left-hand side of the window?  If so, it might be something as simple as a blockage in the gutter at that point, causing it to overflow.  Or else just a joint in the guttering at that point needs a bit of a clean and tightening up?
As long as you're OK with going up a ladder, it's worth taking a look - could be a very simple fix, possibly nothing more than the gutter needing cleaning.
If you don't have a ladder, or are not comfortable going up one, ask around neighbours to see if there's a local window cleaner.  Certainly where I live, all the window cleaners will clean gutters out for a very reasonable charge.  Even if it doesn't turn out to be a blocked gutter, it's not a bad idea to get them cleaned every so often.

no drip strip on the cill
no cavity closer on pvcu frame
gutter issues (check if its blocked or pooling at that end)
The roof felt is probably the old bitumen version which can rot away under the last few slates/tiles dry verge replacement.
how long have windows been in?
  • had another look whilst raining yesterday and the guttering is leaking right above the patch!
recently had a full re reroof (ie: 2 months ago), have asked the roofer to come back and fit all new guttering
windows not sure, as we only recently bought, but could be upwards of 20 years old?
i want those horrible sills removing, but could somebody explain the alternates here, that would prevent water ingress? or is the brick sill fine?

    thanks for all replies

Brick or tile cills are fine if in good condition.

You need to strip one of the cills to see what condition they are in. In fact if you strip those cills you’re property value will increase by £10k
