EDF Bill
Hi,
I recieve my EDF utility bill 6 monthly, so this is the first time I have had one showing the government support scheme. Can someone tell me here if I am reading it correctly? As it appears to me that EDF have included the support scheme payments in my total balance.
The bill states that I have used £1,455.98 worth of Gas & Electric, and that I have paid £1,428 over the last 6 months. Yet the balance is £361.98.
Is this how EDF just show the bill? Or should I contact them?

You need to read the other pages of your bill to fully understand their methodology.

Has the £334 been paid into your bank over the previous 5 months

Yes it has.
But I'm still confused by it. Surely it should be cost neutral shouldn't it? Its not a loan

You are talking EDF ! It's correct - just sit down and follow all the numbers through - and bottom of page 2
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
I've followed that right down to the bottom and I still can't understand it.
If I've used £1,455 worth of G & E, and I've paid £1,428, how can I now owe them £361?

no you haven't. Read the charges on page 2. Add the total of gas and electricity together. You'll find they actually add up to £1789.98. Take off your credit and that gives you your balance.
There must have been dozens of posts on here over the last 6 months about the exact same thing & every bill is proven to be correct.2 -
Please check the sub totals for gas and electrcity, and you will find that they are the £334 lower than the total on the bottom of the page (you need to add 5% VAT tot the sub totals).
EDF deducts the EBSS payments from the usage without explicit showing what they are doing.
If you check your October bill you will find the same for first £66 payment for October.

Because you have had £334 refunded into your bank
Had that not been awarded the refund your bill would have stated you have used
£1, 455.98 plus £334 which would have taken your bill to £1,789.98
I could be wrong and someone will point that out if I am

Thanks guys! Makes sense now!
Why on Earth do they do it like that? Why not just show the EBSS payments being credited to your account, and then the refund being debited?

It does, it just shows them on different pages of the bill. Whilst not clear the energy suppliers had to find a way to bodge this into IT systems that were never designed to handle a scheme like this and they had a very short amount of time to make it work. The issue was a poorly thought out, last minute system created by the government, a scheme which should have never gone ahead once the EPG was introduced.
