Overpaying bill but cannot get a response to allow me to change the payment
Ref British Gas energy bill.
I was told that my payments were to icrease vastly recently, up to £220 a month . Within 6 months i am now nearly 1k in credit. I have emailed to say i want to pay my bill on receipt and to cancel my monthly debit. No reply or response Any suggestions greatly received.

If you cancel your direct debit your energy rates will increase by about 8% so you will be shooting yourself in the foot.
I understand your concern but are you actually in credit, are your bills paid up to date or like lots of users 6 months behind
If you are not in debt then switch supplier and get your £1k refunded

As above, do not cancel your DD as your costs will go up. I thought you could simply ask for any "excess" to be returned. They normally "keep" the value of 1 months payment?

When was the last time you were billed? Are you just seeing the mounting credit on your online account without a bill being produced?

The first thing to establish is if you are actually in credit. British Gas generally bill on a six month cycle, so if this has been six months there is a chance that you are at the end of that billing cycle and are due a bill soon, meaning some or all of that credit could be wiped out by the bill. When were you last billed by British Gas?
Secondly as above, do not cancel your Direct Debit, all you will do is increase the amount you pay for your energy.
Finally, you may find that you are not able to change the Direct Debit amount until after your next bill if that is due to be issued soon, it may resolve itself once the bill has been issued, but they key is how long since your last bill.

'within 6 months…' just means the next bill is due soon, so the credit on the account should be high…

They havent generated your bill yet which BG do every 6 months, my own was a few weeks late last month. You're going to have a 6 month bill applied fairly soon I imagine which will come from that built up credit. Any money left after that you can take
