I had over £1000 credit on my electricity account.

OVO would only allow a refund of £250 saying I need to keep 3 months payments in as credit..

coming into Summer,? WHY?

Use the app/website and adjust the direct debits down as well.

Mine in January let me drop my DD down to £50/mth from £120 even though I was using £100. It used my projected usage to work out what the balance would be at the end of my fix in August* and set the DD so it was zero at that end of fix. I'm not sure what period they use to calculate the minimum when you're not on a fix, but that's let me get to the point where I owe them money now, so there's no 3 months credit at any time element to it

Also, I've got 2 regular saver accounts maturing in the summer that still needed funding, which is why I prioritised immediate cash flow over having a steady payment. If you do set it to drain your credit back as quickly as possible be aware that when your credit hits zero you'll have increased payments depending what the cap does and how quickly they let you siphon it that way

*yes, that's why my payments are what they are

I too had problems not with billing though . 12 weeks to finally do something about my export MPAN, sadly that was the day I switched to Octopus, got £50 goodwill gesture for my problems. I thought ok the 113KwH of export I missed out on at their rate would come in at 113 * .04 is £4.56 good oh and so far Octopus have had 5 weeks and still not resolved. Having said that it's down to the DNO possibly , but they passed my cert in less than 2 weeks. Not everything is within the control of the supplier c.f. the BEIS oh no it's now the DESNZ ...jeez what a farce.
