oldest child leaving education
I currently receive tax credits for my two children. This includes my 19 year autistic son who I claim pip for on his behalf.
My son will be leaving the education system soon. My question is, do I apply for universal credit for him or shall I get him to apply in his own right?
Also will I continue to receive tax credits for my daughter? According to the online calculators on tax credits still get something for my daughter but if we move to universal credit then I won’t get anything for her. Will this change trigger a move to universal credit?
My autistic son struggles making sensible financial decisions but at the same time I do want him to try to learn some independent life skills as I won’t be around forever and I can’t guarantee that he will receive support from other family members.
Whilst he looks and can at times come across as ‘normal’ however, he has the emotional regulation of a toddler when dealing with some situations and very limited social skills. He has been vulnerable to bullies in his school/college life. Despite all the issues he faced, he never had an EHIC but managed to scrape some reasonable exam results. He also suffers anxiety and depression

He needs to apply for UC in his own right. Are you his appointee?
