We are looking to buy some furniture, although do not need a wardrobe, for the nursery
We like the look of the Mamas and Papas stuff, but to be honest it is a little pricey
Anybody got any links to sites for good quality stuff that does not cost the earth
we dont have a problem with 2nd hand stuff really as long as it is in good nick

I bought some really nice furniture for my daughters nursery from Argos, very nice and didn't cost the earth.0

I bought the Sniglar range of furniture from Ikea - £28 for cot, £12 for mattress etc, and everyone that has seen my son's room has commented on how well his furniture has lasted (19months and not even a wobbly leg - the furniture not him!). I recommend it to anyone that I know who gets pregnant and they all agree with me when they see it, (all except one person with an "I know better than thou" attitude and after 6 months her daughter's cot had broken and she ended up going to Ikea."And crawling on the planet's face,

And meaning"0 -
Congrats on the impending life change...my 1st born is now 10 months and, as cheesy as it sounds, children really are a unique joy...your very own gift from God.

These people sell M + P furniture at cash and carry prices. They're based just outside Rugby so if you're close by the bargains are well worth a drive out there.
Haven't used their delivery service, but the staff are extremely helpful, so I guess delivery is straight forward too.
Alos, try Big W as they sell M+P furniture at a reduced price.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Buy & Sell!
We bought our son's cot from there for $30, also a cradle for $25. Then we just bought new mattresses from Mothercare. Super duper. He's still in his cot (just over 2) and it has worked out well for us.0 -
Do have a look at the Ikea range as the previous post suggests. My friend got a beautiful changer unit, which is in a lovely wood design. It is shaped like a chest of drawers/bureau and the unit at the top unfolds to be the biggest change unit I have seen. Plenty of space for mat, cotton wool, wipes and nappies. On top of that a very useful chest of drawers for the next goodness knows how many years to come, I really can't praise it enough, and wish I had bought it when I had my baby at the same time.
It is a good price too.
Alternatively if you don't have an Ikea take a look on kiddicare.com and see what bargains are there. They have a price promise.
On a separate note:
To be honest I wouldn't bother with M&P at all. It is definitely over priced and most of my M&P stuff has either fallen apart within the first year, caused my son an injury or just been a nightmare in general.0 -

You must have got a bad batch then. My sister passed all her baby stuff onto me. Mine's the 3rd baby to use the equipment and still looks as good and works as well as the day it was bought. And parts that got missed in the handover between us two, so a quick call to M+P got the lot sent to us the next day.
BTW, the link I put on doesn't just sell M + P cash and carry, but all brands of nursery furniture.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

What about Ebay, especially if you don't mind second-hand things? You can get some really good baby bargains. I'm also 28 weeks pregnant with our first & we've just bought a lovely beech Mothercare playbead cot & mattress (used only twice) for less than half the current shop price. Also some brand new NEXT 2005 nursery curtains for £10, (they're £35 in the current catalogue). There's always loads of M&P stuff on there.0

If you haven't already I would strongly recommend buying a new mattress. I think from memory the guidelines are a new mattress should be bought for each baby. How can you be sure it was only used twice. To be on the safe side I would consider a new mattress. Don't want to poke my nose in but just in case you didn't know I would recommend checking with your health visitor.0 -
Ahh...I knew someone would say this as soon as I posted it lol!
The mattress was part of the sale & came with the cot. I did know that you shouldn't normally use a second-hand mattress, and no, I can't be 100% sure that it has only been used twice, so I was prepared to buy a new one if necessary..but the cot was a spare at a relatives house, the seller had excellent ratings & seemed very genuine, plus when we actually saw it ( we collected in person) it really does look brand new...no sagging or stains or anything. I certainly wouldn't use it if it looked remotely 'old'.0
