Standing orders. error in Barclays system.

Just a warning. If you amend a standing order while it is 'pending' (e.g. due to leave your account on 30th April, but isn't scheduled to go out until 2nd May as that's the next banking day, but you amend it on 1st May) that payment will get cancelled and not go out at all. This is the case with Barclays, but may also be the case with other banks too. Their online banking system doesn't tell you and their phone advisors don't know either and tell you that it WILL go out as planned.

We’ll need three working days to amend a standing order.

If you don’t have three working days, you could cancel the standing order on your mobile app before 6pm the day before the payment is due to go out. That will recall the payment. Then set up a new standing order with the amended details.

If you need to amend a standing order that’s due to go out in the next 2 working days then you can do so by contacting telephone banking or visiting a branch.

I've had a few standing orders come out Virgin Money M account, that haven't seemed to have registered at the destination institutions (e.g. HSBC, YBS, Saffron).

Exactly!  It's too late to amend, so you amend NEXT month's amount. Which is all fine, but they then CANCEL this month's payment, having told you that it can't be amended.
Indeed, having told me that it can't be amended, their adviser told me that the original payment would definitely be paid as originally intended, but this was incorrect information, so either a) their system really is faulty or b) he was lying to me.
