If it happens again I'll go straight to the bookmark manager, but hopefully I will be more careful in future

have you looked at your browser history - you may find sites you visited there and can re-create the bookmark1

Unfortunately the deleted folder contained links that I hadn't visited recently. I thought I was deleting the top link in the folder, but deleted the whole folder in error. At the time I hadn't visited other links, therefore don't think they will be in History.
Not sure whether the folder itself would show in History, or whether links only.

In the app data folder posted above, are there any bookmark backup files?I think some web browsers back them up every so often?PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)2

Thanks @pete-20-11 Have checked, and unfortunately I don't see any bookmark backup files.
I think the missing files have disappeared into the internet, never to be seen again
