22 year old daughter has 12 months working experience since graduating, salary greater than £15k, looking for first credit card. Tried Tesco, which seemed to be on the MSE list of suggested credit builder cards but eligibility test came up with 0% chance!
I have added her as a card holder to one of my cards - not sure if that will help with credit rating, but at least gets her a credit card - but she would of course like independence.
Are there any banks, building society, or store branded cards that you would recommend she tries next, before leaving too many footprints?

But, say, a mobile contract will or any store card.

Make sure she has a mobile phone contract in her own name. Not a PAYG deal.
Ensure she is on the electoral roll at the address she applies from.
As she was a student, some banks offer a credit card for their student customers.
If different try the bank she has her current account with.
And try the bank’s eligibility checker. It will give a more accurate result than a generic checker.
On finder.com I saw a card aimed at students but can’t remember its name. Try the site and try different search parameters in the section for credit cards. You may find something that works. But as suggested above, once you have one or more candidates, try the card’s individual eligibility checker instead of relying on the one on finder.0 -
Try where she banks now. As they have the most data on her.brookhouse said:22 year old daughter has 12 months working experience since graduating, salary greater than £15k, looking for first credit card. Additional card holder, does not show on their credit reports, as a CC is only your account & debt risk.Life in the slow lane0 -
Once you do the MSE eligibility checker for one card it shows you chances for others in the same category, alternatively she could sign up to MSE credit club which will show chances for a whole range of cards.
As others have said trying whoever she banks with would be a good place to start, also checking that she is on the electoral roll. Once she has a card spend sensibly and pay in full each month and better cards should become available over time (higher limits/rewards/travel…)0 -
I'd start with whoever she banks with. Particularly any she might have had a Student Account (and an overdraft facility) with.0

The two student credit cards are from TSB and HSBC. Each requires the applicant to hold a student account, which won't be possible (unless the OP's daughter still has one from one of those banks which has not yet 'matured')?lr1277 said:Make sure she has a mobile phone contract in her own name. Had a look on finder, but because I didn't spend too long, I didn't find the card for students marketed by a bank that doesn't provide student accounts. However in the search parameters, I clicked on credit builder. One of the cards that was displayed was the Barclays Forward card. The review suggests it would be good as a first credit card. Link here if you wish to use:There was also a check box for student, but as @WillPS suggested, this only listed cards associated with a student current account. As an aside, if you find a card in which you are interested and then click on 'Read Review', I suggest you open the link in a new tab/window. Otherwise after reading the review and then clicking Back, it takes you back but your selections of card parameters have gone and it shows the vanilla list.0
