Possible to get push notification when money paid into TSB account?

I have the TSB banking app.  On a day when I’m waiting for my lodger to pay the rent I find myself checking it repeatedly.

Surely it should be possible to set up this (or any banking app) to send a push notification when someone pays money into your account instead?

I think I read that you can get an SMS message but that’s not quite the same.

I have TSB and don’t get such notifications. I know starling among others offer them.

I think the SMS message you’re referring to is a text when your balance goes above/below a set threshold - I think this is probably your best option for now, if you want to stay with TSB

Thanks for your reply.   I think I just need better mobile phone and money habits, to be honest!

If I am not in any doubt that the payment is going to be made (I’m not) and it’s just a question of what time of day they send it, then I don’t need to keep checking to see if it’s gone in yet.

But if I’m in fact waiting for this money so I can get on with my day and make some immediate purchases - well, that shows I need to manage money better so I have a buffer.

Sometimes it’s not the app’s fault!

Have you looked at switching to Starling or Monzo? They have much better apps and you get instant notifications of all transactions. The older banks tend to bodge the notifications in and they never work properly.

I wouldn’t give custom to Monzo as I have read bad things about their strident politics.   Don’t know about Starling.

Also I like being able to go in to a TSB branch when I need to get out more than the daily ATM limit in cash.  So I don’t think I’ll be changing.

Other banks that give you push notifications include Lloyds, Chase and HSBC

LBG notifications don’t tend to be instant - I transferred into my RSs with all 3 around 00:00, and only got the notifications around 14:00

That's my experience with Halifax too. I have a spare Halifax account I use occasionally, and on the last two times I used it it took over an hour to get the notification. I can only assume that they have bodged notifications into an archaic system that was never designed for them.

You could keep the TSB account for when you do want cash and use Starling or Chase for your main one. It's your choice of course but old fashioned banks like TSB are way behind the modern banks in terms of notifications etc.
