'not very techy + 'build your own website' = Wix or Wordpress. With responsive websites being the norm now,I can't see why anyone would waste their time learning the intricacies of a responsive layout framework and CSS,
never mind having programmable assets (like blogs and databases) incorporated. You only need to reinvent the wheel if you like making wheels.0 -
I've been with Ionos / 1&1 for quite a few years without any significant problems, but I don't like the normal pricing. There are special offers, but I managed to lose track of the contract renewal date last year (which was my fault) and it switched without warning from £1.20 per month to £9.60, which is a lot for what I was doing with it. I never had any trouble with the actual hosting.
I've switched now to Mythic Beasts based on some good comments on another forum from people who have been with them for some years. The transfer went smoothly, and it's now £30 for a year, supporting as many domains as I want. I've gone for the smallest web space / usage deal I could get as I don't believe my traffic requires any more than that. Early days yet, but the site appears to be faster. Their email support response before I signed up was very fast.
As for the transfer, I was moving two web sites. I set up the domains on the new host, uploaded all the files to the separate web spaces, then edited each domain control panel (one at Ionos, one elsewhere) to use the Mythic Beasts name servers. Within about 24 hours, the web site was coming from the new host (I made a couple of small changes so I could see) and the mail had transferred, to. I didn't bother dropping the TTL as it didn't matter.
