Bank froze historic debt

Hi, I have made a poor error by looks of things. I switched my current account to NatWest. They have froze my account. I have no access to it. They won’t tell me why. However I have remembered that I owed NatWest about 8 years ago some money from an unpaid credit card around £3000. I get a letter ever 12 months saying it is unenforceable but I still owe it. This debt has long gone off my credit file etc.

as this is unenforceable what can the bank do all of bills mortgage etc have not been paid as the account is froze and they won’t give me any news

Unenforceable means they can't take you to court to recover the debt. But the debt still exists.

There are FCA regulations setting out what banks can and cannot do in respect of unenforceable debts. But if you defaulted on a previous account, it is unlikely Natwest Group will want you as a customer again. The best outcome is that they will close your account and return the balance. The worst outcome is they will attempt to exercise their right of set-off to use some of your money towards clearing the debt.
