I was wondering if anyone was able to help or is in the same situation.  My son is off to university in September and has applied for his Student Loan.
Both my husband and I receive income from property so have declared that income as part of the application.
However due to residential finance costs our income is actually around £20k a year lower than the income shown as the 'income from property' on the tax return.
We receive a tax relief from HMRC for the finance costs.
Is it possible to reduce the household income by the finance costs so that it shows what our actual income is not the inflated one shown as property income on the tax return?

No as residential finance costs can no longer be treated as an expense. It's the profit (gross income less expenses) before any tax deductions that is used as your income.
