Which documents must I give my bank

As written, that conclusion doesn't make sense - they asked for a range of documentation ("statements from all my other bank accounts with other banks, investments e.g. share certificates, my rental contract where I live, proof of my employment and my salary, tax statemens") and you chose not to provide these, so they're closing your accounts. Obviously they can't check what you don't provide within each of these categories, but they'd be able to cross-refer with other sources (such as credit files) and if they have reason to believe that you've omitted something then they'd still consider that to be refusal to comply, with the same end result....noisla said:Thanks for all the comments. As an update, I provided a copy of my passport only, as I realise that everything else is unreasonable, and who knows how many more questions and document requests will come after.
So, my accounts will be frozen on Monday then closed; they will send me a cheque.
[...]- They only want copies of documents I told them about. Clearly, if I worked for a criminal gang or my rental apartment was in the Kremlin, I wouldn't have disclosed such things anyway.
The big lesson I learnt here is NOT TO TELL YOUR BANK ANYTHING, as they told me clearly that they only check the things you tell them about.
If you really believe that partial disclosure of requested information is a realistic and sensible approach, just try it next time a bank puts you through a KYC check and see where it gets you!2 - They only want copies of documents I told them about. That doesn't sound like very much work.
* Latest statement from let's say 6 banks = 6 sheets.
* Rental contract, say = 6 sheets.
* Proof of employment and salary, latest pay slip = 1 sheet
* Tax statements....assuming you can print a summary say.... last 3 years = 3 sheets.
* Share certs et c......print a summary = 1 sheet
Total. 17 sheets post them off. Job done.
I've had worst requests for data & documents from HMRC.1 -
I have been asked for similar multiple times over last 12 months for both personal and business (both accounts over 6+ yrs old), most definitely they are probably picking accounts that have had large value transfers as they have been fined for terrible/non-existent KYC/AML procedures so playing catch up.It is correct as per the last reply that it doesn't take long to provide what they ask for.
After I uploaded initially they kept coming back asking for more (eg. primary bank statement, self assessment etc). I raised a complaint, a senior case handler looked at my docs and completed the review and I got £75 for the constant requests due to mishandling of my file.1 -
This sounds like a good approach. Comply as requested then complain when it gets out of hand and get a free £75.Futuristic said:I have been asked for similar multiple times over last 12 months for both personal and business (both accounts over 6+ yrs old), most definitely they are probably picking accounts that have had large value transfers as they have been fined for terrible/non-existent KYC/AML procedures so playing catch up.It is correct as per the last reply that it doesn't take long to provide what they ask for.
