I've been moved from Bulb to Octopus but Octopus are proving to be absolutely hopeless with customer service. I'm not receiving any bills from them and they don't reply to my emails. If I ring up they say I'll hear from them within the next 24 hours. I have no idea how much I owe them.  I was moved to Octopus on 25th March and I haven't had a bill since 1st March..  Can anyone recommend a better company? Bulb were brilliant. I'm on economy 7.

Octopus are regarded as the best customer service in the business so all other options are potentially worse.

If you are still being migration to Octopus's systems from Bulb them things would likely be a bit in flux, but the fact that you only moved to them in 25th March and have not yet had a bill is not particularly unusual. If I were you I would sit tight and give them a bit longer to finish the migration, then they should be back to normal.

Take meter readings yourself and work out how many kWh you've used since your last bill. A simple bit of maths and you'll know where you stand.

Have you registered an online account or downloaded the Octopus app? You can see usage data that way.

What is your off peak/peak ratio?

I left Bulb in January to move to EDF.  Service with EDF and billing system isnt great but the 8p off peak rate was just too good to miss out on.  If you have a higher off peak ratio, then some alternative suppliers may be more cost effective.  If you have a lower off peak ratio, then others are more viable.

It isn't possible to take meter readings myself. When I rang Octopus they said it wasn't something I could do as it needed special software. I don't have the software and neither do they. I'm on economy 7 so there are two different rates. I have an online account with Octopus but as they can't read the smart meter and I can't do the reading I will have to have an estimated bill.

If only it was that simple. They say they can't give me a bill unless I submitted a meter reading. When I rang them they said it wasn't possible for me to read the smart meter.

I don't know. I can't find the tariff on their website. I think they charge about 43p daytime rate and 15p cheap rate.

You can read the smart meter on the wall visually unless it's faulty, in which case it should be replaced.
Post a photo of the meter (redact the bar codes and serial number) and someone will be along to tell you how to read it.
