How do we do this? Registered Keeper?
My adult son is moving abroad for work but wants to keep his car.
I will be insuring his car when he moves as the car will be at my address and I will become the main driver.
He will remain the owner, but do I become the registered keeper and complete the V5C even though he is still the owner of the car?

Its up to you, some would say not to because adding more keepers to the V5c devalues it but that really depends how many there already have been and how valuable the car is.
Whats happening to his mail? You opening it for him or is he having it forwarded? If the later, physically or digitally?2 -
Check whether the insurance company will insure you if you are not the registered keeper. Some do, some don'tOhWow said:My adult son is moving abroad for work but wants to keep his car.

No need to be the RK as long as you inform insurance that is the situation.OhWow said:He will remain the owner, but do I become the registered keeper and complete the V5C even though he is still the owner of the car?
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.1 -
My existing insurance company (Aviva) would not insure me on my daughter's car without registering it in my name so I think this does vary by insurer.jimjames said:

If you don't want to change the keeper, change the address to yours. (if the car is registered to a different address)
That way anything posted relating to the car comes to your address, just in his name.
That way you are not adding any more keepers.1 -
My lad has just gone abroad for work, and he has re-registered his car to our address and we have it parked up on the drive. His mail is also being redirected to our address, as he has left his old property.
I am a named driver on his insurance, but I will only be giving it a quick drive once a week to warm up. Probably makes me temporarily the main driver, but I'm also covered on my own fully comp policy to drive other cars, so should be okay. He is coming back for a few weeks in the summer and will sell it after that.
Slightly different scenario to yours, but as above, it'll be down to insurers rules.1 -

Is that good or bad for a nine year old car? The value is only about 5.5kHe is going to let his flat as he will work abroad for at least two years, so I won't be able to get his mail.0
