EDF Problem With Bill and Manual Readings

Hi,
I've had a number of problems with EDF over the past few years but I want to just get people's opinions on my latest issue.
I received an email on 26/04/2023 from EDF to say they were having problems receiving data from my smart meter and could I provide manual readings so I get an accurate bill.
I succesfully entered my gas meter reading of 2572 (the previous reading was 2564 taken automatically on 31/3/2023). This did not cause an issue.
The electric meter reading I entered was flagged as a problem as the value I entered was 21847 which is massively higher than the previous meter reading which was 10920 taken on 28/3/2023.
I investigated my previous bills to see if there was any clue to why this discrepency could occur and found the following in a bill dated 05/09/2022. The meter values for the period 07/06/2022 - 16/07/2022 are 18858 and 19145. However, the meter values for 17/07/2022 - 26/08/2022 are 8521 and 8798 so much lower than the earlier period. Unless I'm mistaken I assumed that meter readings would always rise and not drop by over 10,000. Am I missing something or is this something that is not right. It looks to me that the smart meter has been reporting the incorrect amount to EDF since 17/07/2022 with the result that it is flagging my manual reading on 26/04/2023 as incorrect.

Something has definitely gone wrong that only EDF can resolve. I would raise a formal complaint rather than try to deal with their useless 1st line customer services. This is another argument for keeping your own monthly/weekly records in a spreadsheet as you would have spotted it straight away when your old bill came in.0

It looks like the readings from 17 July last year have come from a completely different meter.0

Does the number on the meter match the one on the bill?0

One potential causes: Smart meters have multiple registers, different ones used in some circumstances.
I second raising an official complaint and investigating carefully.0 -
Before you complain, I suggest that you examine the ToU tariff block in one of your electricity meter sub menus. You will see the index readings for all the registers that have been in use since the meter was installed. Photograph these readings and submit them with your complaint.
That said, it would be somewhat perverse to blame the supplier for a problem of your own making. DO NOT use the IHD to obtain any meter reading. The IHD shows the total of all the registers used since the meter was installed. My IHD reading is 003182.229kWh.0 -
Did you have an E7 tariff at any time?
It almost looks as if the regisyer used was changed from the total to the day rate register. The usage for both entries is consistent in what is used, so I ddoubt a different meter.
Can you check the readigns for the different registers?0
