Credit card DD dates will generally be set by the provider, and aligned with statement payment due dates.
  • Ignore the fact you are paid weekly and set all dates for the end of the month or a more suitable date keep it simple

You could set up a weekly standing order.  Or set up a weekly standing order to put the money for the monthly DD into a separate account.

Lots of people don't have a DD set up - which can be an issue if you forget to make a payment of course.  But many companies will let you move the DD date if you find it inconvenient - as much as they love charging fees they mostly like to have the money you borrowed paid back reasonably promptly so make this easy for you is the best way to make this happen.

thanks its things like this that make me think i cant be bothered with a credit card , but on the other hand im told its a good idea as it helps your credit rating.
im half tempted to just get cash out on pay day or have a second debit card for spending.

It's a minor cashflow issue, what do you do with all your other bills which surely are also monthly?

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

How about two different accounts. Wages go into account number 1 every Friday. Direct debit goes out of account number 2 on a set day each month. Move what you've spent each week into account number 2 when you get paid so it is ready to pay the direct debit when it is due.

Just sweep excess money into a savings account and transfer it back when needed to pay the DD.

Are you receiving any benefit from the credit card, i.e. cashback or points on your spending? Or is it to help with budgeting?

It might be easier to use something like a Chase account. You'd get 1% interest on your current account balance and 1% cashback on most of your debit card spending. Keep the credit card for larger purchases or things where you would benefit from Section 75 cover.

Whilst you can shuffle money back and forth to a savings account, the benefit is likely to be negligible unless it's a large amount.

I would leave the credit card DD set for the minimum payment to avoid late payment fees, then pay the rest manually as it suits you (bearing in mind the credit card interest if you don't clear the full balance each month).

    Developing the Chase suggestion:
Pay goes to Chase current account weekly.
Weekly standing order transfers a quarter of the DD obligations to the Chase saver.
Monthly direct debits paid from the Chase saver.
