Private renting and UC
Hi,
I just wanted to find out if i move into private housing with my wife (here on spouse visa no access to public funds) and child 9 months old (british)
Will universal credit pay me for the rent? I know it won’t be the full rent and it will be whatever the LHA is for the area.
My only concern is because my wife is here on a spouse visa and UC still pay my claim for single person and on the UC website it says this.
If you’re under 35 and you live in private housing
If you do not live with a partner the most you can usually get is the rent for a single room in a shared house
Will i still count as single?

Whether you count as single or not (I don't know the answer to that), your child means you would qualify for the two bedroom rate.1

I agree.Your wife's NRPF status does not matter here. The child qualifies for a second bedroom LHA rate0
