Lamona Fridge\Freezer

Hi I am looking for some help I got a new fitted kitchen from Howdens with an integrated fridge/freezer. The warranty on the appliances was 3 years. However the fridge freezer has just packed in after 3 years and 10 months! Yes I know it’s out of warranty but surely a fridge freezer should last longer than 3 years 10 months. I contacted the local depot who said as out of warranty nothing they can do. Is there anything I can do? I can’t find a head office email or any other way to contact someone to complain about this? It’s costing £500 for a new one to be supplied and fitted! Can anyone help please

Did you buy it direct from Howdens or via a kitchen fitter?
The onus will be on you as it's over six months old to prove it had a fault that was present at manufacture that has now caused it to fail.

Forget warranty, that's gone.  Go back to Howden and see what they say.  They're entitled to ask you to pay to have it inspected and if it's deemed to be an inherent fault, Howdens (not Lamona) are obliged to choose to repair, replace or provide a partial refund, plus the cost of the inspection.

Before you do that, make sure it's been installed in accordance with the instructions, particularly with the minimum specified clearances.  Otherwise, you're wasting money on an inspection.

Lamona appliances are pretty bottom-end stuff.  I inherited a kitchen full of them when I moved house, and they've been a mixed bag.
  • I paid for it direct with Howdens. It is the compressor that has went on it I had it looked at.

A bit of a generalisation, but white goods don't last anything like as long as they used to.  No harm is asking at Howdens but I wouldn't hold out much hope.

Who looked at it?  Did they provide any kind of report?  If the compressor has failed and there's nothing to suggest it's done so through misuse or lack of maintenance (e.g. you've cleaned the fridge and drain plug in accordance with the instructions, you don't overload the compartments and the unit has been installed according to the instructions, with appropriate clearances) then you have something you can take to Howdens to ask for a resolution.
