It seems we now have to pay £2.25 per day for roaming within EU if your contract started after August 2021! I only found out about this today. Anything we can do to avoid it?

Depends who you're with and whether you're in contract or not.
I'm with EE and have been for years (currently on SIM only) and asked for a PAC code. The next day they called and I explained that EU roaming was one of the reasons I wanted to leave and they then added it at no cost to retain me.1 -
Some providers allow free roaming in the EU, with restrictions on usage.Others charge but there is not one univesal charge. If it is an issue look to move mobile company.Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid0

EU roaming charges was in the news massively when it was started to be announced the mobile networks were going to start charging. How did you miss it?!1 -
The MSE post dated yesterday (25th April) is full of usefull info.I did try to post a link to the page, but told I haven't been around long enough! Not a frequent forum user but have been registered for 5 years!I'm in a similar boat - been with Tescomobile for years (on the O2 network), we travel to France frequently, and prior to a trip I increased my SIM-only data to 30Gb last year on June 22nd.Tesco have now announced that there will be no more free data roaming for new customers, or anyone that updated their contract terms after 16/06/22. So I missed out by 6 days.My SIM is on a 12 month contract, so can't get out of it until June 22nd this year, when I shall consider moving to O2 as they are (currenlty) still providing free data roaming.Quite why O2 are still offering free data roaming, but Tesco who use the same network have stopped it is beyond me.

I signed up to virgin mobile for £9 per month 25gb of data and unlimited texts and calls because I'm already a virgin media customer. I asked them about EU roaming and they said it will stay free and they will also merge with O2.
"Get a Lebara sim which includes EU roaming and use that while abroad. 49p per month for 3gb, 5gb for 99p or 12gb for £1.99. These rates last for 6 months."
I've always been curious about Labara, will look into it as my next potential provider0 -
