I do have some small sachets of Miracle Gro, and liquid stuff for tomatoes but am completely out of general feed to scatter onto shrubs, rhubarb, and the ground in general. Really don't want to buy more products than necessary but need guidance re. Bone meal v. Grow more v Fish blood bone.  What do you use? What's the advantage one over another?

I was recommended by a gardener many years ago that Phostrogen was the best all rounder and it's still available. Not widely advertised or promoted as it's an old hand.
Tomato food works for flowering plants.
    BFB is a good alrounder.
Growmore is a quick general stuff when you want quick results.

You can make your own for folliage plants from nettles steeped in a bucket of water for a couple of months to a year.
Comfrey leaves (rampant and quick to grow) are good for fruiting and flowering also steeped in water the same.

I used to leave a large bucket with a mix of these over winter ready for summer use.
Dilute if it's a long standing one, just like tomato feed.

Thanks for reminding me. I must get a bucket of leaves out the back in the badger run. It's not attractive and a 'good' smell so best kept at a distance :)
I may also use that invisible area to grow nettles and comfrey again, hmmmmmm!

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

Phostrogen !  Now that's one I'd forgotten about....and it"s made, or was, less than 15 miles from me.
I spent some time yesterday ripping up nettles from a rough area at bottom of garden.....not sure about making stinky stuff ......box of something suits me more.  Thank you for your input.
